Spinach seeds
Spinach seeds are the seeds obtained from the inflorescences of spinach plants. They are small, oval seeds that are usually black or brown. Spinach seeds are rich in nutrients and have several benefits for rodents and birds.

For rodents such as dwarf hamsters, golden hamsters, teddy hamsters, rats, coloured mice, gerbils, chinchillas and degus, spinach seeds are a valuable addition to their diet. The seeds are a good source of various minerals and vitamins, including:

  1. Minerals: Spinach seeds contain calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium, which are important for building and maintaining bones, teeth and muscles.
  2. Vitamins: Spinach seeds are rich in vitamin A, which is important for healthy skin and eyesight, and vitamin C, which strengthens the immune system. They also contain vitamin E, which acts as an antioxidant and protects the cells.

For guinea pigs and rabbits, spinach seeds are also a welcome addition to their diet. However, these seeds should not be fed excessively as spinach itself contains oxalic acid, which in large quantities can lead to kidney stones. Therefore, give your guinea pigs and rabbits spinach seeds only in small amounts.

For parrots and par akeets such as budgies, cockatiels, agapornids or spreling parrots, spinach seeds can be a tasty and nutritious treat in moderation. The vitamins and minerals they contain can contribute to the birds' overall health and well-being.

For finches such as zebra finches, canaries and amadines, spinach seeds should also be offered in limited quantities. Finches have different nutritional needs and spinach seeds should be part of a balanced diet that also consists of other seeds, fresh fruit and vegetables.

Finally, it is important to note that spinach seeds should be a supplement to the main diet and not the sole source for rodents and birds. Provide a varied diet that contains all the necessary nutrients to ensure the health and well-being of your animals.
