Almond kernels
Almond kernels are the edible seeds of the almond, a nut fruit that comes from almond trees. They are delicious and nutritious and are often used as a snack or ingredient in our parrot food. For rodents and birds, almond kernels are a good addition to the diet in moderation.

They contain important nutrients such as protein, fibre, healthy fats and carbohydrates. The exact amount you give them will depend on the size of the animal and its individual nutritional needs. Remember that almond kernels are also high in calories, so they should not be fed in excessive amounts.

Almond kernels contain various minerals and vitamins that are important for the health of your animals. Minerals include calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and potassium, which are important for bone structure, muscle contraction and electrolyte balance. In terms of vitamins, almond kernels contain vitamin E, which acts as an antioxidant and protects cells, and B vitamins, which are important for metabolism and the nervous system.

For golden hamsters, teddy hamsters, rats, coloured mice and gerbils, almond kernels can be a nice change in their diet, but they should not be the main food source. Make sure they get a balanced diet that is specifically tailored to the needs of their species. Fresh vegetables, fruit, good quality dry food and water are essential.

For parrots such as grey parrots, noble parrots, cockatoos and macaws, almond nuts can also be a small reward or occasional treat. However, even for parrots, almond kernels should not make up the main meal. A balanced diet for parrots consists of a mixture of different seeds, nuts, fresh fruit, vegetables and good quality parrot food.

Remember that each animal has individual needs and it is important to be aware of your pets' specific dietary requirements. If you are unsure, ask a vet or specialist pet nutritionist for advice. Healthy and happy pets are happiest with a varied and balanced diet!
