Keeping rodents and rabbits, as well as parakeets and parrots, in a species-appropriate manner involves not only a balanced diet, but also suitable accessories and species-appropriate furnishings for aviaries and enclosures. Here are some tips for species-appropriate accessories and furnishings:

For hamsters, mice, color rats, chinchillas, degus, guinea pigs and rabbits, aviaries or enclosures should be large enough to provide adequate space for exercise and activities. They should also be equipped with multiple levels to provide a varied environment for the animals. Suitable furnishings include climbing ropes, tunnels, tubes and bridges to provide ample exercise for hamsters, mice, colored rats, chinchillas, degus, guinea pigs and rabbits.

For parakeets and parrots, aviaries should also be large enough to provide them with enough space for flight and exercise activities.
