Peanuts, broken
Broken peanuts are simply peanuts that have been broken during processing and thus no longer have the typical whole shape. They are a popular treat for rodents and birds and can provide an additional source of nutrients in their diet.
For rodents such as golden hamsters, teddy hamsters, rats, coloured mice and gerbils, broken peanuts are rich in protein, unsaturated fatty acids and fibre. They also provide a good amount of vitamins, especially vitamin E, as well as minerals such as magnesium, phosphorus and potassium. These nuts can be an energy-rich addition to their usual diet, but should still be fed in moderation as they also have a higher fat content.
For parrots such as grey parrots, noble parrots, cockatoos and macaws , cracked peanuts are a popular and tasty treat. They contain healthy fats, proteins, fibre, vitamin E and B vitamins. However, again, feeding should be done in moderation to ensure that the birds are getting a balanced diet and are not eating excessively high fat foods.
In principle, broken peanuts are good for rodents and birds in moderation as they offer valuable nutrients. However, they should not be the main source of nutrition and should not be fed too frequently as excessive consumption can lead to obesity and other health problems. It is important to supplement their diet with a varied selection of fresh fruits, vegetables and food specifically designed for them.
