Agapornid Base Mix

The agapornid basic mixture is a varied basic feed. Depending on the individual feeding needs of the birds, further components can be added on the basis of the basic mixture. Please note that a balanced diet for agapornids also includes fresh and sprouted food as well as the administration of minerals and trace elements tailored to the individuals.

The basic mixture for agapornids consists of 47% flour-containing seeds, 41% oil-containing seeds and 12% grass seeds. When selecting the oleaginous seeds, we paid attention to seeds that provide the bird's body with important vitamins and high-quality oils. Nettle seed, for example, is rich in vitamins A, B, C and E. Fennel seeds are also rich in vitamin C and contain minerals such as magnesium, calcium and potassium. Milk thistle seeds, for example, are said to have a liver-supporting effect.

Seeds containing oil are part of a balanced diet for agapornos because of the vital vitamins, minerals and trace elements. In the case of a weight reduction ordered by a veterinarian, oil-containing seeds should therefore only be omitted for a short time in consultation with the attending avian veterinarian.

Feeding recommendation

1-2 tsp per day per bird. The basic food should be regularly supplemented with fresh food.

Our tip
Please check the weight of your birds regularly and adjust the daily feed amount accordingly. It is also advisable to have an annual health check at a veterinarian who is familiar with birds.
